Oily Skin: 7 Ways to Make Face Beat Last

Hello Beautiful People.

This post is more for my ladies with oily skin. I have had a few people asking me what they can do to make their makeup stay on for longer.

As we know, here in Nigeria, we go hard at parties especially when it comes to dancing (LOL), so the last thing we need is our face shinning in pictures.

Just because you have an oily skin does not mean you have to forever give up on makeup. What matters is knowing what works with your skin type.

These seven ideas are solutions from my own view as a makeup artist for wearing makeup if you have oily skin.

1. Always Prime your skin first.

When you have an oily skin, using a makeup primer helps everything stay put.

I advice at least prime the oiliest areas (think: the T-zone...Forehead, nose, and chin) preferably an oil-free, anti-shine primer. Apply it after you've cleaned your face but before you put on foundation, powder of any other makeup.

According to reviews, Mac Prep+Prime Face protect SPF 50 is really really good for oily skin. You get two in one really- Sun protection (SPF 50) and your makeup lasts the whole day :-).

The Mac store here in Nigeria sells it for 5.6K. I know some of you might think it's a bit pricey, but its a good investment.

2. Prep your Peepers.

To cut down on eye makeup creasing avoid priming your lid with concealer (Yes, some people do!).

Instead use a primer specially designed for eyelids. The base creates a perfect canvas for eye shadow and liner whilst absorbing crease-causing oils throughout the day.

3. Don't overdo Powder.

I know it sounds like the right think to do is to pile on face powder. But going over board could backfire by making you pores push out more oil (oops!)

I'll advice using your normal setting powder more on areas that are shiny.

4. Carry Blotting Papers.

No matter how flawless and matte your makeup looks, If you are prone to oiliness, you'll spot shine by midday.

There are some blotting sheets that simply lifts the oil off your skin.

The trick to using blotting papers without taking off all your makeup is to press the paper (or tissue *wink*) where you're oily and then roll it off your skin instead of rubbing the paper on your skin.

So ladies always keep tissue or blotting papers in your bag at all times.

5. Go oil-free

Since your skin naturally produces more than enough oil, invest in makeup products (especially foundation and blush) that are oil-free and noncomedogenic, which means they don't clog your pores.

Also, use face cleansers and toners that are infused with glycolic acids, which cut down on excess oil

6. Look for "long wear"

Water and oil can do the same things to makeup: make it smear, smudge or slip. That's the reason why I will advice you stick to eye products that are waterproof, water-resistant or  long-wear.

One of the best, long-wear combos is water-resistant eyeliner and cream eye shadow over an eye primer.

7. Reduce excess oil.

Once or twice a week, use a treatment mask, as they naturally absorb oil and impurities while calming irritation

Apply a quarter-sized amount for the mask with your fingers. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse it off with warm water for an immediate matte finish.

So....That's it ladies. I hope you find this useful :-).

Have a lovely day
